Mirissa
Famous for blue whale watching from November to April, Mirissa is a lively beach town with a perfect crescent bay, swaying palms, and a buzzing night scene. Watch the sun set from Coconut Hill β one of Sri Lanka's most iconic views.

Galle Fort
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Sri Lanka's crown jewels. Walk the ancient rampart walls, explore charming boutique shops, visit art galleries inside colonial-era buildings, and finish with a coffee overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Yala National Park
Sri Lanka's most famous wildlife reserve has one of the world's highest leopard densities. Join a jeep safari from the park gates and spot leopards, elephants, crocodiles, sloth bears, and hundreds of endemic bird species across a vast landscape of jungle, grassland, and coastal lagoons.

Udawalawe National Park
Home to over 300 resident wild elephants, Udawalawe delivers near-guaranteed elephant sightings in dramatic open grasslands. Catching a herd crossing at golden hour is one of the most memorable experiences in all of Sri Lanka.

Ella
Sri Lanka's most celebrated mountain village, perched in the misty highlands at 1,041 m. Hike Little Adam's Peak for sunrise views, photograph the iconic Nine Arch Bridge as a blue train passes through, and sip fresh Ceylon tea at a working estate. The road from Tangalle to Ella is one of the best tuk tuk drives on the island.

Mulkirigala Temple
A magnificent and rarely-crowded rock temple complex with ancient Buddhist cave shrines dating back over 2,000 years. Climb 533 stone steps past larger-than-life reclining Buddhas for panoramic views across the southern plains. A deeply spiritual and visually stunning detour, just 45 minutes from Tangalle.

Rekawa Turtle Beach
One of Sri Lanka's most important sea turtle nesting sites, where five species β green, leatherback, loggerhead, hawksbill, and olive ridley β come ashore at night to lay their eggs. The conservation project here is extraordinary: you sit in silence on the beach waiting for a turtle to emerge, guided by moonlight. Pure magic.

Medaketiya Beach
A long, sweeping stretch of golden sand just minutes from Tangalle town β calm, quiet, and lined with swaying palms. Medaketiya is the perfect spot for a peaceful morning swim or a barefoot evening walk with barely another soul in sight.

Silent Beach
True to its name, Silent Beach is a hidden gem tucked away from the main road β a secluded cove with crystal-clear water and almost no crowds. Accessible via a short walk through the palms, it's the kind of place you'll want to keep to yourself.

Tangalle Lagoon
A serene brackish lagoon separating Tangalle's beach from the town, home to kingfishers, herons, and river otters. Kayak or canoe across its glassy surface at sunrise for a completely different side of coastal Sri Lanka β peaceful, birdy, and beautiful.

Unakuruwa Beach
A wild, windswept beach east of Tangalle town β rugged, photogenic, and largely untouched by tourism. Known among surfers for its powerful breaks and among photographers for its dramatic rock formations and moody skies. A short tuk tuk ride to a completely different world.

Diving & Snorkelling
The waters around Tangalle hide an extraordinary underwater world β coral gardens, reef fish, sea turtles, and rays. Several local dive centres offer PADI courses and guided snorkel trips to nearby reefs. The best visibility is from March to October, though year-round encounters with turtles are common.
